This blog post is about what are the best baby skin care products.
Taking care of your baby’s skin is not just a daily task. It’s part of creating comfort, bonding, and care. A baby’s skin is still developing, which makes it more sensitive and more vulnerable than adult skin. Because of this, choosing the right body cream can make a big difference. It helps protect, nourish, and keep your baby’s skin soft and healthy.
When I became a mom, I quickly realized how many baby skincare products are available. It can be overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to figure out what’s best for your baby’s unique skin. I wanted to share my experience with baby body creams and other products in hopes that it helps other parents who are just getting started.

Which Cream is Best for Newborn Baby Skin?
Everyone has a different skin type. Some people have dry skin that needs deep moisture. Others have sensitive skin that reacts to even lightly scented products. Some people are lucky to have balanced skin that only needs basic care.
Babies also have unique skin types. Your baby may have smooth and balanced skin, or they might experience dryness, irritation, or redness. Understanding your baby’s skin type is the first step to choosing a product that works well.
At first, I avoided creams and kept things simple. I did not want to overload my baby’s skin, especially in the beginning. I started with oil, then introduced creams slowly after seeing what worked well.
When to Start Putting Cream on A Newborn?
I started using body cream when my baby was about one month old. Before that, I only used Mustela baby oil, which is safe to use from birth. I highly recommend it. It helped keep my baby’s skin soft and moisturized without irritating it. It also made our massage time extra special.

Once I saw how well The mustela oil worked, I added body lotion to our routine. I especially wanted to protect my baby’s skin from the dry air, since we live in Finland, where the climate can be harsh.
What is The Best Skin Care for A Baby?
The first body cream we used was Mustela Stelatopia Emollient Cream. This product was amazing. It is rich and contains sunflower oil distillate, which is known to support and soothe atopic skin. It kept my baby’s skin moisturized and helped reduce dryness.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find this cream in stores lately. It seems to be unavailable, which is disappointing because we loved it.

After that, we switched to Mustela Bébé Hydra Body Lotion. This one is lighter but still effective. It also contains sunflower oil, avocado extract, vitamin E, and is certified organic. It worked well for daily use and helped keep my baby’s skin smooth and hydrated.

For the face, we used Mustela Bébé Hydra Face Cream. This is not a body cream, but I still want to mention it because it helped so much, especially during colder months. It protected my baby’s cheeks from dryness and worked really well with no irritation. (Bonus: Mustela, Stelatopia Emollient Face Cream is also a great choice, and its fragrance free.
A Simple and Reliable Ointment

We also used Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment. It is similar to Vaseline in texture but is designed for babies. I liked how it is gentle and effective for many things. We used it for dry spots, diaper rash, and even small scratches. It costs more than Vaseline, but I felt better knowing it was made for sensitive baby skin.

Who doesn’t love Bepanthen? Because we did and still do! I highly highly recommend this Bepanthen Nappy Rash Ointment. Use this when your baby has diaper rash. We also loved the Aquaphor baby one, but Bepanthen worked super fast for us.
What’s The Best Baby Bath Wash?
When I decided to start using a body wash or shower gel on my baby, I did a lot of research first. I wanted to find something that would be kind to my baby’s skin, especially because both my baby and I are Black and we live in Finland. Many products here are designed for lighter skin, so I was very careful with what I chose.
I also didn’t want to use several products for such a small child. I wanted something that would work for both body and hair to keep the routine simple.

We ended up using Klorane Bébé Calendula Gentle Cleansing Gel. It worked really well. It had a nice scent and was very gentle on the skin. My baby’s skin always felt soft after bath time, and I never noticed any irritation. I also used the Klorane Bébé Nutrition Face Cream, which I recommend as well.

We also loved this Dove, Baby, Sensitive Skin Care, Hypoallergenic Wash, Rich Moisture. If you love NOT having any scent on your baby’s products, this one is for you. We used it right after emptying the Klorane one.
After bath time, I always used Mustela Bébé Oil before applying any cream. This oil helped lock in moisture and made baby massage time more enjoyable. Our little routine of washing, oiling, and applying cream became something we both looked forward to.

For Newborn Moms Who Are Just Starting
If you are a new mom and feel unsure about which products to choose, I totally understand. It took me a little time to figure it all out. I kept our routine simple, and it worked well for us. Here is a list of the products we used and really liked:
- Mustela baby oil
- Mustela Stelatopia Emollient Cream
- Mustela Bébé Hydra Body Lotion
- Mustela Bébé Hydra Face Cream
- Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment
- Klorane Bébé Calendula Gentle Cleansing Gel
- Klorane Bébé Nutrition Face Cream
- Dove, Baby, Sensitive Skin Care, Hypoallergenic Wash, Rich Moisture
- Bepanthen Nappy Rash Ointment
As you might notice, most of the products we used were French skincare brands. I found that they worked well, especially for sensitive skin. They often include natural ingredients and are designed with gentleness in mind.
